Journal Entry 3: The “Perfect” Time To Start

I am sure like most everyone that takes on a fitness or diet regime, you wait until the perfect time to start. Certainly can’t start on a Thursday, who ever heard of anything starting on a Thursday?!

I planned that my big adventure would start on a Monday – yesterday Monday – but once again life happened. A medical emergency with my extended family and my laptop deciding to quit threw me in a mental state that a Monday start was just not in the cards.

So now what…

I could go back to my normal routine as I yo-yoed through weight loss and weight gain… and wait until the perfect time next Monday to start. But part of this journey is to break habits that have I instilled or let rule my life. I need to go against the tide and shatter my routines.

Thursday it is.

Journal Entry 2: Life Interrupts. …

Once upon a time I used to be athletic and pretty darn strong. My wife and I were that couple that got up at 5 am to get a workout in 3 days a week for years and years. Even before that I was a college wrestler (a looong time ago), so being in a weight room was part of my makeup.

Then we had a beautiful little girl, born nearly 12 years ago and that was the end of organized training. We sputtered here and there trying to get a flow going again but to no avail, life always interrupts.

I don’t regret it at all of course, I adore being a father to a wonderful girl whom I love with all my heart.

It just seems the train can really come off the rails in 12 years…

Why am I embarking on this journey, and telling the world about my struggles? My hope for anyone who does read this is that they realize the Apportis Health and Wellness platform was created from this need to produce real change in users (me!)

Do I want to look better – that is a minor part of this, yes – but it is really about my daughter.
My blood pressure is up.
My heartrate is too high.
My Body Mass Index is bad — really bad.

I want to live to see her graduate from College, find out where her talents lead, and to dance at her wedding (in that order, daughter!) I am staring at a long ramp ahead and at this rate, I won’t make it to the mile markers I laid out.

I am going to make some serious changes.

Journal Entry 1: Why Another Health and Wellness Platform? …

My name is Philip Payne, and I am the founder of Apportis. Follow me here as I tell my story and let you ride shotgun on my journey.
I woke up one morning feeling awful as usual. I had a Doctor’s appointment later that day, and to mentally prepare for it, I stepped on the scale for the first time in years. Holy cow, I reached a new milestone… one that I am not proud of. Where did these 50 pounds come from over the last 5 years? And what am I supposed to do now?

Why am I telling you this?

I decided to make drastic changes in my life. One was to walk away from Corporate America and create a startup that focuses on the very same types of challenges that I personally faced. I knew there must be more people out there just like me, and I needed to do something to help all of us.
And now the excitement is palatable here as we are launching “Soft Pilots” of our new Health and Wellness Platform so companies and users can get a look at our solution and see if this is right for them.

If you are a company that offers a Health and Wellness solution, either formally with a software platform, or ad hoc style, and you are interested in trying out what we believe is the next generation of a wellbeing solution, please contact me. We know deep down we are onto something great, but we are craving real-life feedback. This is your chance to have a say in what is added (or dropped.) Heck, you may be customizing your new Health and Wellness platform!
Today I signed up myself, answered my Health Assessment questions and entered my biometrics from my last blood work… that was another eye-opener! And now my own personal journey begins. Follow me here to see how I progress along this path to being a better, healthier person.

 Smiling now…tomorrow, who knows?
